Limitless possibilities: Why your thoughts matter.

“The very awareness and realization that there are infinite realities for you to choose from should reduce your belief that this current reality is the only one which you’re committed to.”

I read this and had a literal lightbulb moment. How powerful is that sentence? Read it again.

How many times have you gotten yourself into a mental tailspin by replaying the worst case scenario, or by telling yourself that things haven’t been going your way? Chances are that you have done this before — everyone has!

Often times, when things get hard we tend to amplify our stress // pain by focusing on thoughts that affirm the negative emotions that we are feeling in the moment. This can apply to a bad day at work or something as serious as losing someone we love.

It can be easy to let certain things pass, but it can feel impossible to create a more positive storyline about others. So how can we make the hard times easier on ourselves?

First, you have to consciously change your thought patterns — whether or not you actually believe what you’re saying to yourself. It is said that about 95% of our daily thoughts (over 6,000 per day) are unconscious. This means that just 5% of our thoughts are intentional! You can imagine how this can get us in trouble if we are someone who struggles to find the positive ones.

If you do not make a conscious effort to switch the narrative in your head, you are going to stay stuck in this tailspin longer than necessary. This is not to say that negative emotions don’t deserve our attention — they ABSOLUTELY do. In fact, it is essential to feel and allow all of life’s emotions to come. But it is also essential to let them pass and not hold on too tightly to them.

Next time you find yourself in this negative headspace, ask yourself this: “What is a better thought that I can think right now?” This can be hard at first, but the more practice you have re-directing your thoughts, the easier and more automatic it becomes.

When we remind ourselves that we can not predict the future, it lets us off the hook. We no longer have to ruminate about the stress or the pain or the negativity. We can trust that the possibilities of our life are endless, truly endless!

Think about that for a moment.

We don’t know what is coming to us. We don’t know just HOW GOOD things can be for us. The sooner we start to trust and believe this, the sooner life can get to work making it happen.

Your thoughts create your beliefs which affect your actions which can change the direction of your life.
